See my next chapter on foliage: http://landscapesinpastel.blogspot.com/2010/04/chapter-twelve-foliage.html
I like Terry Ludwig's eggplant purple beneath dark areas, though I don't think it's necessary to fix it. If the value is dark already the dark greens you place atop it will 'marry' with the purple or other darks. And, yes, as you say, any other light colors will be able to cover the darks, so you can add sky or lighter foliage. There's a lot more in that chapter, as perhaps you've already discovered. Thanks for your comment!Deborahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12576820565521582322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476970477541481177.post-37140836820229887392013-07-21T08:40:57.064-07:002013-07-21T08:40:57.064-07:00Thank you for sharing your work with us all.

It is sometimes advisable to spray with fixative to stop the dark colour affecting the greens to be added afterwards. Gaps can still be added last with some blue.roncohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13378159890958529783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476970477541481177.post-21547583287676046432013-06-28T20:20:56.880-07:002013-06-28T20:20:56.880-07:00Thank you for sharing your talent.Thank you for sharing your talent.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476970477541481177.post-72542346783363283212011-07-14T08:37:40.504-07:002011-07-14T08:37:40.504-07:00I've wonderful very old trees that stand about...I've wonderful very old trees that stand about 70 - 80' high. After raising the canopy we discovered fantastic-looking trunks w/craggly bark. Your suggestion to draw a part of them daily to bring a more intimate knowledge of the tree form is excellent. Classes/workshops are the best venue to see how to do it, of course, but I'd like to suggest you visit the Soft Pastel Forum at www.WetCanvas.com, where you'll find lots and lots of threads with photos and "how-to" answers from me and many other fine pastelists.

Also, if you look at the "Learning Tools" tab(above)you'll find links to two videos that are for sale through Artists Network TV.

Sometime in the future I may be able to offer online classes or workshops containing more of the kind of in-depth information you mention. I wish I could do it all, but for now this is all I have to give you. I'm glad to know it's helping a little.Deborahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12576820565521582322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476970477541481177.post-41216202852567546012010-04-21T14:37:24.006-07:002010-04-21T14:37:24.006-07:00your virtual book here is wonderful and i'm le...your virtual book here is wonderful and i'm learning a lot from it. however, i feel that you go deep into the anatomy of things without really showing us how to properly express them through pastels. how about some "how-to" video or step-by-step tutorial on painting clouds, trees, landscapes, etc.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
